Gordon Setter Temperament

The Gordon Setter makes a loyal and loving companion who is equally happy as a gundog or an agility competitor. These are confident dogs who are not blindly obedient, but they do well in obedience, rally, tracking, and flyball competitions. They love outdoor activities and will take as much exercise as you can give them. The Gordon Setter is intelligent, interested, capable and curious. They need to have a job, and if they don’t, and become bored, they can become destructive. You didn’t want that rug, did you? This is a dog who needs to be part of the family and will be exceedingly loyal you. They are naturally protective of their family and home, especially children. This breed is gentle and patient with kids, especially when raised with them. They are alert and make good watchdogs and are naturally reserved with strangers. They are very impressive talkers with quite a vocabulary of sounds they use to boss you around. The Gordon Setter is happy, fearless, devoted, affectionate, bold, and outgoing. And their tails never seem to stop wagging. Just remember that this is a dog who needs to exercise every day, or he won’t be a happy dog.
